Where Your Vehicle Goes
Real Impact, Not A Junkyard.
VRRC turns donated vehicles into transportation, food support, and technology access for Bay Area veterans, seniors, and underserved families — then reinvests surplus proceeds into the next round of support. Nothing sits unused.

How It Works
Four Steps. You're Done In Minutes.
1
Tell Us About Your Vehicle
Fill out the short donation request below — make, model, condition, and how to reach you. Takes about 60 seconds.
2
We Confirm & Arrange Pickup
We review your donation and follow up within 1–2 business days. For most vehicles, we arrange free pickup or towing — you don't have to drive anywhere.
3
Your Vehicle Is Restored, Used, Or Sold
Depending on condition, your vehicle is repaired and given directly to a veteran in need, or sold through an organized sale to fund our programs.
4
You Receive A Written Acknowledgment
We send you a receipt describing your donation. Keep it with your tax records — see exactly what it does and doesn't guarantee below.
The Part Everyone Asks About
Vehicle Donation Tax Basics.
Stated plainly, because most donation sites bury this. Here's what actually determines your deduction.
Important — read this first: VRRC's 501(c)(3) nonprofit status is currently in progress, not yet finalized. Whether your donation qualifies as tax-deductible depends on our nonprofit status at the time you donate. We will always give you a written acknowledgment of your donation — but please confirm our current tax-exempt status with us before you file, and don't assume deductibility until it's confirmed.
What Determines Your Deduction
💵
If the vehicle is sold, your deduction is the sale price — not what you believe the car is worth. A car you value at $4,000 that sells for $800 typically deducts at $800.
🔧
Full fair market value only applies in specific cases — if VRRC uses the vehicle directly in its mission, makes material repairs that meaningfully raise its value, or gives it to a veteran in need at a reduced price as part of our charitable purpose.
📄
Paperwork matters. Claimed values over $500 require Form 1098-C from us, attached to your return; general noncash donations over $500 require Form 8283.
📊
You must itemize to claim any of this. For 2026, the standard deduction is $16,100 (single) or $32,200 (joint) — if your itemized total doesn't exceed that, a vehicle donation gives no additional tax benefit.
📅
Timing is set by the handoff, not the sale. Your donation counts for the year you sign over the title and hand off the vehicle — not the year it's eventually sold.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice. VRRC is not a tax advisor and cannot advise on your personal situation. Tax law is complex and changes — consult your own accountant, tax preparer, or attorney before relying on any deduction from this or any donation.

Common Questions
Before You Donate.
Does my vehicle need to be running?
No. VRRC accepts vehicles in any condition — running, non-running, or needing repair. We evaluate and route each one to direct use, repair, or organized resale.
Do I have to pay for towing or pickup?
For most vehicles, no — we arrange pickup or towing at no cost to you as part of the donation process.
What if I want to donate more than one vehicle, or something else entirely?
Wonderful — VRRC also accepts boats, motorcycles, aircraft, computers, surplus equipment, and high-value assets. Use the same donation request and describe everything you'd like to give; or visit the VRRC homepage for the full donation form.
Is a vehicle donation part of estate or legacy planning?
It can be. If you're organizing your broader affairs — accounts, property, wishes for your family — The Legacy Keepers™ can help you include charitable vehicle or asset donations as part of a complete plan.
